Invoke Uficle: Experience with 2000 > XP upgrade by Werehatrack 2009-04-10 20:53:27
It appears that my Win2K installation's config got trashed while I was getting the DVD burner unfubar; it now hangs on boot, and I can't find the option for stepwise driver loading to watch and see what the boot failure point is. I appear to have two options:

Reinstall 2000 (usually safe IME, but takes a while because all of the SP updates and subsequent fixes have to be reinstalled as well.)

Upgrade to XP. I have an unused XP upgrade disc sitting here, but I am uneasy about running it because I have no experience with the degree to which this upgrade will result in installed app loss or trashing.

My question to those who have run the XP upgrade on Win2K systems is simple: Usually painless, sometimes trouble, potential horror story, or what?
