Even as a kid the history was cool. Walking along side streets in the Old City (the part inside the ancient walls) there were digs right there on the street going down 30 feet. Archaeology isn't just for experts: it's like a national past-time. Masada is amazing, we have two whole rolls of film just from the ride up to the fortress. Unfortunately we were taking pictures of the wrong mountain. :-) Yad Vashem is also there. I was too young to go in, but I am assured it's very powerful. We mostly went to the Jewish sites but I am assuming you'll want to visit a variety. Have fun.
