Second, at least in Texas, when you first start a degree program you are enrolled under a particular catalog of courses. That catalog has a defined "lifetime". For me, the catalog I'm under expires in 2011 (I think that makes it 10 years old at that point). If I'm not completed by then, I have to basically migrate to a new catalog, and according to the director, several of my credits would expire and I'd have to take an additional 12 hours of classes.
