Candle lit on a shelf. Hydro the aforementioned idiot. Starts batting at the flame. We pick him up and move him tell him no. Up he goes on the shelf. puts his paw IN the candle flame. We grab kitty before kitty becomes barbecue. TOSS kitty on floor with the no bad admonishment and a very gentle smack. Cat gets back up and singes some hair. Meows and leaps off the shelf. Living room smells of lightly singed cat hair. Cat is fine but dumb.
