Revisting wall mounted network rack by vampire 2009-04-10 09:07:33
I got some feedback but I guess perhaps I need to be more specific? Though someone did make a well intentioned effort by providing a Google shopping. However, the items were either unrelated or way too expensive. So...

Okay, I have a mess of network cabling in the office. This includes computers in the office as well as wall plate that currently serves as a pseudo patch panel.

I can get a patch panel from Newegg for $30 to $60 and the products seem to have good reviews. I want the network hardware mounted to prevent things from getting knocked around in the closet etc. I would need to relocate the cable modem and wireless router to the closet/rack. I think the existing hub/switch will remain in the office. I am guessing that I would also need another one for the rack. All that said, I am looking for a sma;; professional-ish rack that is inexpensive. I assume something that would hold two-three standard (19"?) rack mountable network devices and a shelf for the cable modem, router/switch and a UPS. I am a little concerned about having 2 hub/switches and I do not know how to go about selecting the appropriate network appliance and the best way to connect them together. Both current devices are Linksys.

1. Is my thinking correct as far as what I need?
2. What's the best way to connect everything together?
2. Any recommendations for the rack that don't cost $300-$400. I was hoping for something closer to $100.
3. Any recommendations for the switch/hub?

Thanks!
