inspired question: what if MS got liquidated? by jaqie2009-04-02 14:21:33
Who gets the IP? by RetiQlum2 2009-04-02 15:01:55
Someone needs to run the update servers for patches.

If it wasn't for Windows Disadvantage this wouldn't be an issue, but the OSes since XP all require to phone home.

linux is not going to take the place of Windows. Sure it's more powerful, but knowing how to fix problems requires arcane knowledge. *BSD is even worse - FreeBSD 7.1 has installation screens that don't work as advertised and even if they did the average home user is going to be severely daunted by them.

ReactOS is probably the best bet to replace them. Vista will die silently and Windows 7 will not take off.

There will be a thriving business in creating update servers for XP and Win2k for those who don't know how to set up their own. The crack disks will stop evolving since MS won't be killing off VLM codes that are spread to far and wide.

PC makers are going to be in a dilly of a pickle until the legal issues are ironed out.

BeOS will make a slight comeback, but not enough to matter.

Lawsuits are going to be everywhere. In the end home users will not be too affected, but larger businesses are going to be spending massive amounts of money to make sure their infrastructure is supported.

UFies are going to be raking in the $$ for a while.

That's as far as I'm willing to predict.
