knowing if you even exist. This goes back to my statement of, "I don't think, therefore I am not."
lets deconstruct his statement:
"If my mental processes are determined wholly by the motions of atoms in my brain, I have no reason to suppose that my beliefs are true ..."
to me this equals "I don't think"
"... and hence I have no reason for supposing my brain to be composed of atoms." To me this equals "therefore, I am not. INOW, If his brain is not composed of atoms then it must not exist.
Heisenberg stated: "that certain physical quantities, like position and momentum, cannot both have precise values at the same time. The narrower the probability distribution for one, the wider it is for the other." Schrodinger went on to use the famous description of the cat in the box with some poison. Until you open the box you have no way of knowing if the cat is alove or dead. His statement is totaly based upon being able to *PERCEIVE* something. if you can perceive it, then you must be able to think, like the cat, *perception* is the key thing here.
the very fact that he can reason and think to make this statement, makes his statement false *based upon our PERCEPTIONS of how the universe works* To be able to think your head must be made up of atoms, that make up molecules, that make up tissue, that make up...etc....but again...all of this is based upon how we PERCEIVE the univers and it's rules. That prerception may change as time goes on if we find out that atoms in fact don't exist... but then atoms will just be exchanged with $thing and the result will be the same re his statement.
It is like asking if a zebra is black with white stripes or white with black stripes? Can't it just be both? or just zebra striped? |
