Those two groups (and phone survey people, and political campaign callers; I include "charity" pests in "telemarketers") are the reason for the fact that I do exactly the same thing. If, when you call, you do not identify yourself adequately (and sorry, but if you're not someone I know, that includes your employer or other relevant affiliation which is generating the call) then I'm not available. I know several people who go by a nick or their middle name who have not been available to anyone using their proper given name in years.
