many docs suggest waiting 6 weeks to prevent infection. And infection is excrutiatingly painful. I got an infection in my uterus after having my second child and it was probably the most painful thing I ever experienced in my life. And remember, when I say that, just a week before I had given birth to a fairly large baby, whose head came out just fine but shoulders got stuck, and I had to strain so hard that I broke blood vessels from the top of my head clear down into my chest, while nurses stood on each side of me pushing down on my side with thier fists to try to get him out( he was not able to breath, we HAD to get him out NOW), and when a new nurse came to check on me a few hours later (one who deals with immediate post giving birth women every day) her first words were "Wow, you look like s4!". So the infection being more painful that that was pretty bad.
