You do realize that most of the 'E numbers' are just normal ingredients, don't you? Sometime the producers just don't like putting the common name on the product. For instance:
E 140 - Chlorophyl
E 153 - Charcoal
E 172 - Rust
E 175 - Gold
E 290 - Carbon dioxide
E 300 - Vitamin C
E 507 - Hydrochloric acid
E 551 - Quarz
etc.
All harmless, albeit maybe unusual, ingredients. Just putting an E in front of them doesn't make them poisonous. It does, however, make it very easy to look up exactly what you're eating. Unlike with 'natural grown' stuff, where you have no way of knowing what you're ingesting.
