NE Australia. These critters are absolutely indiscriminate; they will be *everywhere*, including in the banks of rivers and nestled under the roots of trees in every wooded area. They get into the crawl spaces under houses. They hide *everywhere*. To kill them by rototilling it all (to a depth of about half a meter is ordinarily enough) would also entail complete destruction of the entire ecosystem of the area, along with shredding a lot of human infrastructure that they might be *under*. Like sheds, barns, fences, the margins of roads, etc.
In other words, this is a Real Mess. |
