Maybe start by introducing the kitty door, but keep the litter box inside. After a little while, move the litter tray outside. After he gets used to that, remove the tray. Prepare to have trouble returning him to strictly indoor though. Disclaimer: I have had indoor cats and I have had outdoor cats, but I have never had an indoor/outdoor cat or transitioned one to the other.
