Why I am staying *AWAY* from SSDs! by jaqie2009-03-31 01:22:40
In order to get some real data on durability by ripley8 2009-03-31 12:15:39
we (the non-profit ISP where I'm a member) are conducting an
experiment with a SSD disk drive where we put it into a Usenet
news server as a spool disk. The news system (INN) is throwing
the articles into ring buffers filling them up linearily and once
a buffer is full the next one will be assigned and once all are
filled then the system starts all over.
So basically all the disk is written to constantly from one end
to the other.
Since the filesystem is filled up with the buffers there is not
much space to wiggle around with reassigning unused data blocks
either.
So we consider this a fairly good method for testing the durability.
