Interesting idea for calendar reform by toysbfun2009-03-31 08:54:32
Doesn't that simply move the "weird dates" by MatthewDBA2009-03-31 08:56:44

No need. by werehatrack 2009-03-31 10:31:37
Oh, there would need to be a slow change-over in the writing of school texts to note that the scientific community no longer uses the old BC dating, and to note that for all dates since 1/1/1 there is *no difference* between their HE designation and their expression on common current calendars except that the leading 1 in the year is not used on the *common* calendar. Teaching ancient history would get easier (to those who believe it exists) and the dates of the lives of pre-CE notables would be much easier for people to comprehend because they would no longer "age backwards". (Believe it or not, I have seen a student essay which showed that this misconception does occur, and I've heard it reported that it's not all that uncommon.)
