UF Philosophy Corner: Ethics by MatthewDBA2009-03-31 07:55:43
It would depend a lot on your code of ethics. by retiqlum2 2009-03-31 09:41:03
Specifically of duty.

From a scientific standpoint, genes have a 'duty' to replicate themselves and to protect themselves. This is true from the DNA molecules right on up through higher organisms.

Most religions have some sort of "be fruitful and multiply" commandment and all have a "take care of the children" clause bespeaking a rather fundamental ethical concern for genetic perpetuation.

Even if we go to the extreme of ethical egoism (what's good for me is good, screw the rest of ya) then it is still there.

So my answer is: yes it is definately warranted.

Then we come to your use of the word "feel." That is entirely subjective and cannot really be debated without knowing more about the definition in this context.
