I would have to be given pretty substantial, undeniable evidence to support the claim (in this example, I would want undeniable proof that humans will, in the next few centuries, grossly overpopulate the planet), as well as evidence that any possible other solutions would not be enough to prevent such a need for occurring. Having said that, I don't believe it should be up to one person, I'm a firm believer in democracy.
