(a) to survive the next extinction event - this could occur at any time.
(b) to survive the solar cycle (that won't happen for millions of years, so humanity will have evolved into something other, but it's still on the table.

Personally, reasons a and b above are sufficient to pursue efforts to colonize other planets. Our incessant overbreeding and destruction of the ecology are reasons NOT to leave, but to let us die out...
