Puppy Linux loads entirely into RAM. It boots off CD and creates a RAM disk which acts as the root disk, which is nice because it frees up the optical drive.

Now THERE's silly-stupid-fast for you. Click on an application and it /instantly/ appears. The only slower bit is whilst you're booting up as obviously it needs to transfer the filesystem from the CD.
