I've heard comparisons to stagflation in that time period, which is what I was most concerned about. In the end though, even if that does happen again, it's not that big a loss, since it means that the rest of the cost of the entire loan (either version) would be going down quickly.

Much to the dismay of SWMBO, I think you're right. She was looking forward to some extra monthly $. Now I have to explain to her that there'll in fact be less.
