Let me guess...a microdiskectomy and/or hemilaminectomy? If so, it could be a year+ before she fully recovers, but it DOES get better, especially after the 6-8 month mark. Don't be surprised or freaked out if the first month is filled with debilitating pain. There's a lot of destruction in those operations, so that result is not unexpected. Many good wishes for you and your mum!
