But they know how to downplay it so it doesn't become late-night fodder -- Witness President Obama's "special olympics" gaffe. He not only apologized immediately on air, he also called up the head of the Special Olympics the next day and apologized to him directly. It's hard to make fun of someone who apologizes for their mistakes, when they make them.
