Koran an old dialect of Arabic.

I seem to remember that there are some passages of the Koran that read much differently if you assume that the writer is using an older, more Aramaic-like dialect than if you assume he's using a more modern dialect. It's on the order of the diference between "to beat" or "to scold" depending on the dialect.

As far as the Old Testament, by the first century, the Jews in Palestine tended to use Aramaic in day-to-day speech, but religious services and writings were still in Hebrew. The situation is similar to the Roman Catholic use of Latin before the 1960s.
