I think you're selling yourself short and not letting yourself get out there. I recognize you have a condition that affects the way you process things and the way you interact with people, however I fear you're falling into the common trap of the long term un-employed: "I can't do that job because of $reason so I'm not going to even apply."
Might I suggest you apply, go in to the interview with confidence and see what happens? If I understand correctly one of the things aspies may struggle with is interactions with strangers, especially in a stressful environment. What better way to figure out the coping methods then go to interviews, if you flunk it has it cost you anything?
If you were to get a job with Excel, for example, where you may not be fully confident, people are around to help you out. This is where you can put the other part of Asperger's syndrome to use. You can use the routine, and the attention to detail to find out what you need and the best way to do things.
As someone who uses Excel quite a bit I can assure you that the stuff you don't know is mostly more programming then anything.
It's hard when you have been unemployed for ages to see your assets but you got them. Go in with confidence, you might be surprised. |
