Why not put it on a server and let the people download it via ftp or even better via bit-torrent (lesser bandwidth needed)

I don't like this kind of business model.

If you want to earn some money (not joresgump is meant here, but the publisher) say it loud and clear and make a donate! button. But saying it's for free and then collecting the data (I don't believe,they fill up their hard drives with sets of personal data just for fun), that's evil in my eyes.
