just not this badly :( Country towns all have active volunteer bush fire brigades and farmers and townsfolk routinely lend equipment when there is a need (like for bulldozers or tractors with equipment to make firebreaks). Many locals would have learnt firefighting techniques by joining in smaller fire fighting tasks or volunteering. Country town depend on their community to exist in normal life. Crises bring them together even closer. Nothing prepares you for this kind of thing though.
