Big project programming question by UGuardian2009-02-10 18:30:04
Not uncommon, but not good either. by corwin17 2009-02-10 19:08:36
Even if you develop this specialized tool, and are the maintainer of the code (something that cannot be guaranteed) there *WILL* (as an absolute certainty) come some point in the future when you will look at it and say "WTF did I do?!?"

People will develop in an environment that is familiar to them (at the time), regardless of what is best for the project. (Personally, I fell in love with MATLab.)

When I first started working here, nearly 15 years ago, the VP came into my office and asked a simple enough question ...

"What would it take to create a library of standard routines that everyone in the office can use?"

My response was "Force every engineer here to change the way he/she programs!"

The VP walked out of my office and never spoke of it again.
