Downside is if it's not done WELL (and if its compiler/interpreter isn't tested EXTREMELY WELL) it can cause a lot of insidious issues.

Upside you can do some cool stuff with it, and make your life easier.

If you're developing Win stuff it's probably worth while looking in to the Microsoft Workflow Framework, essentially you define a bunch of "activities" then you write some XAML to make them stick together and do stuff, really useful in highly event-driven situations.
