I've seen some downright scary numbers for # of write cycles on MLC (multi-level cells) vs SLC (Single level cells). SLC are insanely long lived. MLC are not.

The other day, I noticed someone announcing a 16 level cell (4b per cell). Yikes.

Anyway, I've seen people recommending SLC drives (faster, longer life) over MLC drives (bigger, cheaper). Consider all of this third hand information by now though.
