ggggrraaaaaaaaghhhhh im never gonna get a job!! by Pandilex2009-02-10 10:47:29
You will... but it's gonna take time. by urbanmyth 2009-02-10 12:56:22
Took me nearly a year last time I was out... and I've got 20 years IS/IT/PM without a major specialism - I can tune my CV to almost anything except hardcore networking these day :D

I was firing off up to 10 apps a week all over the country (Scotland, UK). From over 200 apps I made 6 interview shortlists without getting an offer.

Then there was the one interview that just felt right - people, office, job, everything except pay and location - 250 miles away and well below market rate. Took it like a shot. Still happy 5 years later although I've jumped the fence again in the meantime (internal promotion from Apps to Infrastructure).

Keep your spirits up, there *will* be a job - hopefully it'll be good from the start, BUT CONSIDER THE FUTURE... Many jobs are not great to start with, but the company gives room for growth: This is a GREAT question to ask them: "What can you do to develop me in my role" "What internal prospects for advancement do you offer" etc..

As others said, finding that offer is a job in and of itself: you will have to really work hard at it - I spent 3 hours a day scouring papers - longer on Fridays. I'm sure you are doing it, but getting a "live" app out there (on a voluntary basis for a charity works well, but I've seen Video Rental, Golf Club Membership and Home Maintenance apps from guys I recruited) is very, very worthwhile thing on the CV... It gives you a client (for goodness sake ask/listen/document) and a showcase.

Good luck!
