Police thought 12 year old was a hooker by Illiad2009-02-10 08:32:55
The city's response to this incident by Peace_man 2009-02-10 09:00:59
is deplorable. Instead of profusely apologizing for the mistake and try to make improvements they actually charge the wronged parties with crimes? That is definitely sending the wrong message -- a message of injustice and adversarial attitude.

We are only told one side of the story. The cops could have identified themselves properly. They could have made a mistake in identifying a 12 year old kid properly in the dark. It could have been an honest mistake - we haven't heard their side of the story.

But one fact that doesn't seem to be in dispute is that the cops were at the wrong address. And for the city to treat the victims of an honest mistake in such a shabby way sends the wrong message - a message of 'us vs. them' that will get cops killed, and won't contribute to any semblance of law and order. Cops need to have respect, and this won't allow anybody to respect them.
