for all flavors of PCI slots (PCI, PCI-x, PCI-e, and even for laptops).

The low price on newegg is $15 for a PCI card that has one SATA and one eSATA port (eSATA is a slightly different connector intended for external drives), I have no idea what the top end is but I wouldn't be surprised to see some PCI-e cards with 8 or 16 SATA ports with any RAID support you can think of... I just wouldn't want to pay for it.
