Thank you Florida and State Farm </sarcasm> by corwin17 2009-02-03 14:07:24

You may (or may not) know that on 12/14, my wife's father passed away leaving everything (including a house) to my wife.

We live in California. My wife is currently in Florida overseeing the reasons for this rant (see below), while I remain at work in California.

The 'thank you' to the state of Florida is for disallowing companies to write mortgages for houses with jalacy windows (think louvered glass slats). This requires us to change out all *20* windows!

The 'thank you' to State Farm Insurance for no longer writing home owner's insurance for the entire state of Florida! I don't know how long this has been known in the state, but we only found out this morning ... *THREE* DAYS BEFORE IT EXPIRES!! Because of the age of the house, no company (that actually still writes policies) will insure without a detailed inspection. The result of which will most likely be more costly renovations that we had not budgeted.

And, as much as we loved him, we have to 'thank' my father-in-law. We've told him for many years that he has termites, but he refused to do anything. Now, we have to nuke/pave the kitchen because the termite poop is 1/2 inch thick in the cupboards! Who knows what else we're going to find in the rest of the house. (On many a visit, we had to sweep the termite wings off the beds. EEEWWW!)

The previous 'thank you' begets the 'thank you' to Lowe's (the home improvement store). It seems that cabinets that we had planned to buy to put in the kitchen went on clearance sale while my wife was back here in California. Can you say 'GONE'? I knew you could! My wife is checking other stores in the area, but it's not looking good for keeping that style cabinets ... which we had already started purchasing.

And one last final 'thank you' to life in general, for having me be here in California while my wife has to handle all this mess by herself in Florida because I have no more vacation time and we need me to keep my job if we still want to have one house!
</rant>

Sorry, needed to do that lest I begin my primal scream therapy and they put me in a straight jacket!
