I recently fixed a friends computer which had half a dozen viruses and trojans on. His virus scanner had expired months ago and he was using public access points. He had learnt the lesson of not clicking on unexpected boxes that pop up. Unfortunately he hadn't learnt that things like windows update and virus scanner updates were exceptions to that rule. His computer now has an up to date virus scanner and instructions along the lines of "If the box looks exactly like this then..."
