But I did experience one many moons ago. A student asked to intern at the publishing offices where I worked, so I brought her on as an editorial intern. She was so dedicated, worked so hard and so well we kept piling work on her plate. At the end of the internship we couldn't afford to lose her, so we hired her on full salary as an editorial assistant. 3-4 years after I left that company I heard she had worked her way up to Associate Editor. Outstanding!
