...was the notion of just how ready we are (on all sides) to accept our own barbarisms as justified because they further our own political agendas. I'm not even talking about the barbarisms of war. I'm talking about lauding Hamas or al Quaeda as freedom fighters for randomly shelling civilians or blowing them up with suicide bombers. And I'm talking about defending Israel when they play their own shell games with Gaza or shoot rockets back into civilian areas. From our knothole on the outside, it's hard for us to know for certain who is right or wrong here (probably a combination of "all of the above"), but I strongly believe that we have to be very careful about expressing our own tacit support for tactics that we find (or should find) reprehensible.
