Shoulda made the switch from viola years ago... the biggest difference for me isn't one of pitch or sound, it's "when I play a violin, my jaw and neck aren't all achey afterwards". (A full-sized viola has always been a bit too big for me...) OTOH, oot + perlon-core strings = :-( There are some mistakes you only need to make once before you learn never to do it again, like eating tapioca pudding. This is definitely one of them.
