Can I have some air conditioning please? by TechisSO2009-01-29 14:49:11
I don't think building AC can be run when by vdp2009-01-29 14:58:48
Why not? The condensers should work better at lowe by Intrinsic2009-01-29 15:28:49

Or main HVAC system is an air/refrigerant type unit (as opposed to water/refrigerant), condensers on the roof (rather than cooling towers in the case of a water/refrigerant system) so the cooler the temp outside the more efficiently the system runs, but more importantly humidity doesn't effect efficiency, cooling towers rely on evaporative cooling to chill the water fed to the condensers, if it's humid evaporative cooling efficiency is seriously impacted.

For heating we have a boiler feeding a heat exchanger in the same air handler as is used for cooling, because it's a gas boiler it's significantly cheaper to run (and probably more efficient) than if the refrigerant loop was reversible and can be switched in and out instantly (in practise the compressor and the boiler are generally both turned on all the time but they are managed by the controller so they are never both active at the same time).
