a couple years back, and a mouse chewed her way through some poor kid's jacket and dropped off a bunch of babies overnight. I have pictures somewhere. I'm not sure what happened to the babies, but I doubt that they lived long. I never saw the mother. Fortunately for the kid, the jacket didn't look particularly valuable and the weather was nice. Better to have mouse holes in your jacket than to have the local porcupine eat your boots (porcupines are apparently fond of sweat-impregnated boot leather, and I had seen one near camp that evening) or a bear rip up your pack.
