with dementia is to identify yourself to the disabled person. When I call my dad, I say "Hi, Dad, this is your daughter, voxwoman" (that is, if he picks the phone up) It saves a lot of grief. Well, some grief. Half the time when I visit him, he thinks I'm my (deceased) mother. I've also had other residents at his assisted living come up to me and say "Are you my daughter?" Dementia sucks
