If for no other reason than to have it in case you-know-what really hits the fan. I have a substantial stash of 100+ year old Bulgarian silver coins, and I know that several of them would currently fetch ~100$. However, their value is mainly tied to their history, rather than their silver, so in troubled times they don't hold their value nearly as well as newly minted gold coins.
