One of the crucial differences—and this may seem odd to those on the American right, who think of Canada as their liberal, flaky neighbour to the north—is that the Canadian financial system tends to be much more conservative.

The article seems to be a pretty fair summary of the differences between Canadian and American thinking when it comes to debt.
