I take it, then, that your tax code does not have exceptions for that? Inheritance for kids below 21 (or "kids who have not finished the education that's normal or expected given family and such") is subtracted before the inheritance is taxed over here. Wives left behind get "right of whole estate" -- they get to be "both" you and them until they die, at which point the whole estate is split.

The people who argue harshly that inheritance should not be taxed in Norway are usually people in their 40s who have large windfalls from retired, debt-free parents coming their way. And they usually attempt to make it out the way you do -- like you're taking food out of kids' mouths.
