So what if there's less fat in 85/15 than in 75/25. That doesn't justify saying that someone who points out that, yes, there's still fat in the 85/15 is somehow being inaccurte for saying so. Certainly, "less hypocrisy" is a good thing, but is it accurate to claim that Ms. Brown was being "unfair" for saying that hypocrisy is still there? Espeically considering that Obama said he wouldn't be hiring those ex-lobbyists. Maybe he should have stuck to "less ex-lobbyists" if he didn't really mean what he said. ;)
My point with the "data entry clerks" was to highlight the claim that only two ex-lobbyists had been appointed (thus far) among "hundreds of staffers". You mean to say that there are "hundreds of staffers" who have been appointed to positions of "significance", but only two are ex-lobbyists, or is it that of the appointed positions of significance, only two exist?
To be honest, I'm not keeping a scorecard because I was not really ragging on the appointment of ex-lobbyists. I'm trying to point out the inconsistency of Obama's claim that he wouldn't appoint any versus his actions of doing so. I'm also trying to illustrate that calling any criticism of Obama "unfair"...especially one as meaningless at this one...is a little...well...out of proportion. *I'm* not the one who's saying that Obama's being mistreated for being called hypocritical in all this.
And since you brought it up, let's talk about the proportion of GWB versus all those other presidents. Are you saying that you've *never* heard people saying that Bush stole the election? You're saying that the plethora of smarmy talk show hosts who are popular because they criticize Bush are somehow more saintly than the Limbaugh, et al?
Hmm, though...maybe I was wrong about "Hollywood" movies wishfully positing the death of GWB. But a quick Google search *did* show:
"Death of a President"
"The Day Britain Stopped"
At one point in our history, we didn't cheer when our presidents got killed.
As for SNL, yes, they've had caricatures of all the presidents during the span of their show. But you didn't see actors threatening to leave the country when Carter or Clinton where elected. (And BTW, "Carter Country" wasn't about the president and didn't directly feature him as a character.)
You didn't see protests of "Not My President!" or holding up signs reading "F4 Middle America" when Bush got reelected in 2004, people booing and throwing eggs at their inaugurations or final days in office. You didn't see people calling Carter a "tyrant" (Cuba Gooding, Jr. on Leno on Obama's Inauguration Day, for instance). How many right-wing nutjobs did you ever see camped out for months around Carter's or Clinton's homes?
I'm only just scratching the surface here, but it's pointless to keep trying to one-up each other with anecdotal evidence. I would happily concede your point if you could honestly convince me that GWB was treated as well, or better than, Messrs. Carter, Clinton, and now, Obama. Show me that, and I'll call the current accusation of hypocrisy for Obama "unfair" as well. |
