That being said, Eowyn and I went to her parents' house in the fall. We got there about 10:00PM on Friday night, and had been talking for a few minutes when her dad got a twinkle in his eye and said, "Do you want some Apple Pie?"

We said, "Sure! Why not?"

Then, instead of reaching into the refrigerator, he reached up onto a high counter (they have greyhounds) and pulled down a mason jar with some odd-looking brown liquid in it. He poured us all half a shot or so of it and handed out the glasses.

We sipped. Our immediate response was ".....mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm......."

It was honest-to-$deity white lightning which had been flavored with apples and apple pie spices, made by the local bootlegger. Of course, calling the local bootlegger just a bootlegger is akin to calling the Superbowl just a football game. Popcorn (yes, that's his name) brews 1000s of gallons per week between all his still locations, and distributes 100s of 1000s of gallons per year.

Sadly, he was recently arrested on tax evasion charges. :-/
