Okay, this is just unfair... (Obama, lobbyists) by firehawk2009-01-29 02:10:07
So making exceptions for his actions... by jdelphiki2009-01-29 06:26:57
    Proportion. by kelli217 2009-01-29 09:40:40
Try, I mean, TRY to keep this in proportion.

Data entry clerks and administrative assistants are civil servants, not appointed positions. So the new administration isn't going to be appointing anyone to those types of positions. All the positions that ARE political appointments ARE "positions of significance." That's why they're appointed and not hired through the civil service.

It isn't George Bush himself who is accused of "fixing" the Florida polls, it's Datapoint and Katherine Harris. His inauguration was not held up at all; it took place on January 20, 2001, right on schedule. Name the movies that wistfully pondered his assassination. Dan Akroyd made fun of Jimmy Carter on a regular basis on Saturday Night Live, and there was a sitcom called Carter Country featuring Victor French and Kene Holliday; Phil Hartman and Darell Hammond also made fun of Clinton on SNL. Franken's book was aimed at the Limbaugh/Hannity/Savage/Liddy media juggernaut more than at the administration. The people who most often accuse him of planning 9/11 are RIGHT-wing nutjobs, not lefties. Whether Bush planned it or not, FEMA was woefully mismanaged by the person he appointed to run it (any sufficiently advanced incompetence is indistinguishable from malice).

And you let me know when there's someone in politics who's 100% free of any sort of contradiction. I think that hypocrisy and contradiction are inherent in the system, and so you can't eliminate it, but you can at least minimize it.

So when I go to the store to get ground beef, I pick the 85/15 instead of the 75/25. Is there still fat in the hamburger? You betcha. But there's a lot less of it. What if I apply standards similar to the ones you seem to be proposing? I either shouldn't have the beef at all because it's impossible to entirely eliminate the fat, or else I should admit that there's no difference between the two types of beef since they both contain fat.
