It's time for (cue tragic music) ~~Deep Hurting~~
I administer a Notes database to add fax numbers to people. I get an email with a link to a case in a database, I assign people a fax number, I type a response in the case with the fax number, and an email automatically comes out to the requestor with a link to the case, containing my comments/their fax number. About 8 out of 10 people do not follow the link, and so they request multiple fax numbers.
I get beefed at because these people think that a nice "your fax number is XXX-XXX-XXXX" is not informative, and what if they want to look up somebody else's number? Why not go back to the old way of sending them a link to the company fax phonebook like the gal who retired used to do?
OK, I'll bite. I sent that link the same way that she did it to the last batch of 20 numbers I assigned. In four days, I have gotten the most CLUELESS emails "how do I find my fax number." "what is this link for.", "I can't find the name my parents gave me.". For Pete's sake, it's Notes, it's been here 20 years, and we all know the drill -- just type in the first 3 characters of the name, and it takes you right there!!!! (If your name is Suzy Pinhead, and typing 'suzy' doesn't work, try typing 'pinhead'...)
I just got the 20th response (actually about the 30th, as most people have to email 2 or 3 times unless I send them a screenshot of their number in the flipping database.), so it's 100% fail.
So. Do I do it the approved way and get multiple instances of stupidity back, or do I do it the other way on the chance that at least 2 of the 10 that get it aren't total boneheads?
I've had a conversation with our LAN support group to arrange a permanent loan of the SNMP-managed cattle prod, and am negotiating with my Director for an account with the FTD TeleSlap people. (you call a number, give your credit card, a little old man in a minivan goes up to the recipient, says "You so-and-so?" "Yes." >>>SLAP<<<) |
