Okay, this is just unfair... (Obama, lobbyists) by firehawk2009-01-29 02:10:07
So making exceptions for his actions... by jdelphiki 2009-01-29 06:26:57
...when it suits him is okay?

I'm not sure that comparatively "less" hypocrisy is automatically a "good thing(tm)". It would not have even been an issue had Obama not made it one by suggesting that he wouldn't be hiring lobbyists.

Also, there *is* a difference between having two lobbyists spread out randomly across "several hundred staffers" and having them been in positions of significance. If the two lobbyists had been a data entry clerk and an administrative assistant, I don't think folks would care. If they're in spots like...say...Treasury Secretary, isn't that, at least a *little* more worthy of questioning Obama's decisions against the actions he said he'd do?

One more thing...would you have been willing to give one of those "previous administrations" the same number of provisos...the same benefit of the doubt...had *they* been the ones making such a move?

George Bush was (and still is) accused of somehow "fixing" the Florida polls during the 2000 election, even *before* the legal wrangling that ultimately ended in the Supreme Court; his inauguration was held up for months while folks around the nation accused him (and still do) of "stealing" the election -- during the course of his term, the movie industry made at least two films that wistfully pondered his assassination, Comedy Central created an entire animated series, "Little Bush" (IIRC) designed to denigrate him, the esteemed (almost) Senator of Minnesota wrote a book about him called "Lying Lies and the Liars that Tell Them" (or something like that) -- folks accused him (and still do) of planning 9/11; of rebuilding FEMA so that it would perfectly fail when monster hurricane Katrina flooded below-sea-level New Orleans; and of single-handedly causing global warming during his eight year term.

Now, I am *not* particularly happy with GWB's term, his accomplishments and, most importantly, the stupidity with which he handled things while in office. But isn't it just a *bit* thin skinned to be calling Campbell Brown's use of "hypocrisy" against Obama "unfair" when Obama actually *did* say he wasn't going to hire ex-lobbyists? (Especially when, in the case of Geithner as Sec. of Treasury, he's an ex-lobbyist who can't keep his taxes straight?)

But is the claim against him "fair"? by jdelphiki2009-01-30 06:22:32
