I know it probably won't help to say this, but sometimes the hardest part of relationships is getting to the point where you have to make the decision you made: where you realize that being in love isn't always the same thing as being able to be together with someone. A relationship...especially a long-term relationship...is about being compatible: about both people being able (and willing) to work through the problems they face and to be able to live on the common ground they share as a couple. While being in love can sometimes help to accomplish that within a relationship, it's not always a guarantee of it. And that's the brutal part of it all. Take comfort in knowing that your love for each other is still as meaningful as it always was, but also that you're doing (as you said) what's best for the both of you. Take care and best wishes.
