Target to pay fine

The Target corporation has agreed to pay more than $1.7 million in penalties after the Contra Costa County Superior Court found it consistently charged amounts greater than the lowest price posted for products sold to retail customers, Santa Cruz County District Attorney Bob Lee announced Tuesday.

Santa Cruz County joined Sonoma, Contra Costa, Marin and Fresno counties in the lawsuit against Target.

Without admitting wrongdoing, Target agreed to the settlement. Target must also implement price accuracy procedures in its California stores for a year.

Santa Cruz County consumers with pricing questions may call the county Department of Weights and Measures at 454-2383.
