there is a base increase, anything beyond that is based on merit. Although there are only 3 'levels' there are infinite points in between. I.E. you might be a 2, but barely, therefore you are at the lower end of the '2' merit increase, whereas someone who is a solid 2 gets more than you, and someone who, while still a 2, could almost make a 3 gets even more. This does not take into account class adjustments - if you are adjusted in class, then you also get an adjustment in pay for that as well, in addition to merit. All in all, if you are a solid performer, you do well. If you slack off, this is the time it is reflected.
Anyone who is a low 2 or a 1 might have cause to be a bit concerned - they may get a 100% pay reduction - there are rumors about an across-the-board staffing cut throughout the entire company. I am reasonable certain I, and most of those in my immediate department are safe. Others in our part of the company may not be, and I can think of a name or two that would not surprise me if they wound up on the outside looking in. |
